About
Moving Clay
Moving
Clay was established in 1996 by a group of newly qualified ceramicists
and has evolved into an egalitarian multi disciplinary artists group.

Members
are encouraged to seek funding, research and create opportunities
for events, workshops and exhibitions, to design and develop appropriate
group and self promotion material, participate in all possible arts
initiatives, open studio projects, arts forums etc. and promote
membership.

Just
one of the projects Moving Clay was involved in was the creation
of an Art Shop in Macclesfield in 1998. Working closely with various
bodies the group mounted a ten week series of manned selling exhibitions
with a programme of accompanying hands on workshops and daily demonstrations.
The group secured sponsorship from various companies to refurbish
the interior of the premises and organise publicity. This proved
to be a fantastic learning opportunity for all involved. This event
instigated by eight ceramic and two fine artists, but developed
to include over sixty multi media artists and was supported by over
sixteen thousand visitors.

Members
are encouraged to, research, design and organise, with other interested
bodies the provision of artist instigated hands on workshops, to
further social inclusion, generate arts awareness, facilitate the
re-commencement of arts education and provide opportunities to develop
self esteem.

Members
are encouraged to organise events, workshops and exhibitions, always
including members with no prior experience, primarily in venues
not normally associated with the arts, in an attempt to generate
and facilitate wider involvement with the arts within the community.
Support and assists members to exhibit at venues they would not
normally be able to exhibit at, as individuals, assisting their
personal development by providing professional learning opportunities.

In 2000
Moving Clay secured through sponsorship from Our Members, North
West Arts and The Mabel Evans Trust , a small amount of modular
exhibition stands. We now have the ability to mount a self contained
exhibition of members work and provide a wide variety of accompanying
demonstrations and hands on workshops.

Since
2003 Moving Clay have had a permanent exhibition space at Manchester
Airport. The exhibition is in the Art Walk between Terminals One
and Three. The Exhibition is changed ever three months. |
