Artists Statement

I paint the human body, using oil paints. My figures are striped of the accoutrements of materialism and culture.

‘The ego is ultimately derived from bodily sensations, chiefly from those springing from the surface of the body. It may thus be regarded as a mental projection of the surface of the body,………….’ Freud.

The paint plays out the creation and illusion of surface, and shares the fallacy and metaphor with the depiction of the body. The painted veils of skin, the psychic negotiation of the human ego.
