Artists Statement

I often have the overwhelming urge to give form to my imagination and love nothing more than the challenge of working out how to produce the sometimes seemingly impossible. Over the last few years I have delved further and further into the world of ceramics, finding this versatile medium one that allows me to explore numerous possibilities.

My work is predominantly unglazed, allowing every smudge and fingerprint to remain visible like a timeless reference of a human touch. I work with slips, coloured clays, oxides, aggregate additions, smoke firing and any other method which grabs my attention. I tend to fluctuate between the vessel, wall art and the human and animal form. The beauty of clay is its versatility, I can be meticulously etching details into the finest translucent porcelain in the morning and then manhandling a sculpture in the afternoon.

I'm like a child in a candy shop forever tasting the endless possibilities that the world of ceramics offers, everyday is a learning curve, every kiln opening a mixture of anxiety and excitement and with every success a whole new corridor of doorways open.
