Artists Statement
After gaining my degree in Art and Design I spent most of my working life in education, 33 years as a teacher followed by becoming the National Specialism Coordinator for Visual Arts and Media. I am presently working with teachers and students as a freelance Visual Arts Education Consultant and practicing artist.
My own creative practice has varied over the years and I have explored different genres from portrait to abstract expressionism. Increasingly I have begun to focus on the landscape and the painter John Virtue has influenced the development of my ideas, especially the mark that he puts down onto his canvas. I now combine expressionist mark making when responding to light, sky, hills and patterns in the landscape.
